The Alexandra Ivanova Trio is known for performances that are not only musically moving but also carrying a profound message about identity and growing up in between cultures. Together with double bassist Judith Ferstl and drummer Axel Filip, the Austrian pianist with Bulgarian roots creates soundscapes that tell stories of migration and multicultural belonging, between jazz, maqam, classical Arabic music, Balkan odd metres and Afro-Cuban claves. Alexandra’s compositions draw on a deep exploration of her family's history in the village of her late grandparents. Her arrangements of Azeri, Arabic, Bulgarian and Icelandic pieces invite the audience to walk in someone else's shoes and see the world through their eyes.
