Megalopolis, an extraordinarily large structure where all the conflicting contrasts meet and merge into a complex balance: This image illustrates the aesthetics of Urs Hager’s debut album, a creation of nine energetic compositions rich in variation. Both as a piano player and composer he is clearly inspired by his heroes and interprets the jazz language in an intuitive and humorous way. The overall sound could be described as a synthesis of both songforms and avantgarde and is reminiscent of the epic dramaturgy of bands like the Kurt Rosenwinkel Group.
