Maja Jaku is a Vienna-based jazz singer, composer, bandleader, arranger and teacher whose artistic voice is rooted in emotional authenticity, improvisation and spiritual depth. Born in Kosovo and raised in a musical family, she took to the stage at a young age and later moved to Austria, where she studied jazz singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
Her artistic development was significantly influenced by legendary mentors such as Sheila Jordan, Mark Murphy, Andy Bey and Jay Clayton. Their teachings shaped her personal approach to storytelling, phrasing and vocal freedom. Over the years, Maja Jaku has made a strong name for herself on the European jazz scene – through her expressive voice, her wide emotional range and her ability to blend swing, soul, gospel, blues and contemporary jazz with authenticity and power.
As an artist, Maja sees the voice as a place of truth. Her singing is intimate, cinematic and deeply personal; it combines technical mastery with vulnerability and emotional honesty. She has released several highly acclaimed albums and collaborated with outstanding international musicians – always in search of music that speaks with sincerity, depth and courage.
