Since the premiere in June 2022 at the Radiokulturhaus Vienna, Madeleine Joel & The Hildeguards have played 35 concerts.
The jazz saxophonist Madeleine Joel, blessed with a charismatic, rough voice, who received the Ö1 Jazz Scholarship in 2021, succeeds in retelling the Knef's lyrics in an impressive way without imitating them.
Arranged by the American master pianist Rob Bargad, the pieces are musically taken to a new level. He transforms outdated chansons into sophisticated and contemporary arrangements: jazz in all its facets, modern grooves and harmonies.
Rob Bargad (piano, rhodes) is just as brilliant in the band 'The Hildeguards' as the jazz virtuosos Herwig Gradischnig (saxophone), Johannes Herrlich (trombone), Pista Bartus (bass) and Klemens Marktl (drums).
