A restless traveler out of necessity and a world traveler of music, Golnar Shahyar translates the essence of her experiences as a woman striving for self-determination into the abstract, sensual language of poetry and music. Her music is an extraordinary blend of languages and styles, drawing equally on the traditions of South/West Asia and North/West Africa, as well as the contemporary music of Europe and the Americas. Shahyar has the improviser's gift of balancing the familiar with the unexpected. Her debut album, “Tear Drop,” recorded with some of the best musicians from the Viennese jazz and improvisation scene, was nominated for the German Jazzpreis 2022 as the best debut album of the year (international).
