Project Description
At the heart of the music are the rich traditions of Kurdish maqams, whose distinctive melodies and structures evoke a wide range of emotions and atmospheres. The diverse backgrounds of the musicians bring fresh perspectives to this musical heritage. Microtonal sound systems merge with elements of classical music and contemporary jazz, opening new sonic landscapes. Traditional Kurdish music is interpreted by Sakina in the three Kurdish dialects of Kurmanji, Zazaki, and Sorani. Mahan Mirarab’s fretless guitar, together with cello, viola, double bass, and percussion, creates a layered soundscape in which maqams are reimagined and enriched through stories, emotions, and a dynamic interplay of delicacy and power.
