Tobias Meissl plays mostly original compositions and a few Jazz Standards with the intention to approach the pieces differently in each performance and to improvise a new "arrangement" each time. This practice of improvisatorially dealing with, at times thoroughly notated, pieces is inspired by instrument-specific approaches to orchestration on the one hand, and a wide range of musical interests from classical repertoire to Jazz(-related) musics, several folk musics, contemporary music etc. and uses them as a point of departure.
