The JBBG Smål is the core of the internationally acclaimed JAZZ BIGBAND GRAZ and consists of the two long-time bandleaders Heinrich von Kalnein and Horst-Michael Schaffer as well as the rhythm section - the JBBG in pocket size, so to speak. The music draws from the compositional world of the two bandleaders as well as the newest ensemble member, the Armenian keyboardist Karen Asatrian. Extremely varied and colorful, it is characterized by a jazz musical attitude with expressive melodies and enough space for musical surprises, improvisational freedom and large musical arcs.
