The third album by the Austrian septet „Aufmessers Schneide“ delights with surprising, genre-bending compositions and the ensemble members’ uncompromising interplay. Band leader Gregor Aufmesser finds inspiration for his music in the most unusual places. Be it in mysterious cosmic megastructures called „orcs“ (Odd Radio Circles), which serve as a blueprint for a polyrhythmic trombone feature, or in traditional South African Xhosa and Zulu mythology, where devilish little creatures called Tokoloshes capture people‘s souls in their sleep. In the album’s central piece „Dance of the Tokoloshes“ they take the audience on a wild Bernstein-esque ride into the depths of humanity‘s primal fears.
