Newcomer Resume

Remarkably, at the young age of 21, Alan Bartus already embodies the characteristics of a mature jazz artist on the New York scene. Melodic invention? Check. Harmonic imagination? Check! Rhythmic mastery, swing, touch? He’s deep into them already. Add to that a healthy respect for the acoustic jazz tradition, with a forthright willingness to break the rules and strike out into adventurous territory. It doesn’t hurt to be raised by a father who is a passionate modern-jazz bassist, but you don’t get to where Alan Bartus is on genes alone. He’s putting in the work, and has already begun collecting awards and accolades for that effort. Alan’s new recording is the first of what I’m sure will be a long discography, documenting the work of an exciting new voice in the music.
