CROSSINGS

The central component of this project is the composition "Crossings" by saxophonist Edith Lettner. In the two parts- "The Atlantic Suite" and "The Mediterranean Suite"- an African ensemble and a jazz ensemble are juxtaposed and fused together, spanning jazz, blues, world music and improvised music. While "The Atlantic Suite" traces the development of jazz from traditional African music, "The Mediterranean Suite" deals with the drama of people who leave their villages and try to reach Europe via the Mediterranean in order to support their families back home. A joint improvisation, conducted by Alessandro Vicard, and several other musical delicacies round off the program.
